Purple Heart for a 'Broken Toenail?' Democrat Says Yes?

CNSNews.com) - A Democratic congressional candidate from Pennsylvania, allied with anti-war critic U.S. Rep. John Murtha, Wednesday insisted that in terms of the qualifications for receiving a Purple Heart in the military, "it matters not whether it's a broken toenail or a slug to the brain."

Purple Heart for a 'Broken Toenail?' Democrat Says Yes?
That is correct. ANY injury sustained during combat conditions qualifies the individual. Clinton violated the rules when he gave PHs to two soldiers who had been captured in Bosnia by the Serbs and released but Bubba always showed his contempt for our military including left-hand salutes to the crew of Air Force ONe, mocking saluting Marines in a security detail assigned to him, and the like.

I am retired USAF officer. I know the rules.
Reply:Wow. I live in PA and that stuns me.

I always thought a Purple Heart recipient endured a near death experience. Now all it takes is a near manicure experience?
Reply:Stop bashing our troops.
Reply:When you cheapen 1 medal you cheapen them all, but what do you expect from there is no justify able war. Next they will give the Congressional Medal of honor for stopping an officer from crossing the street when a truck is coming.
Reply:Jim Webb says it better than you or I can about Republicans smearing decorated combat veterans:

"...in recent years extremist Republican operatives have inverted a longstanding principle: that our combat veterans be accorded a place of honor in political circles. This trend began with the ugly insinuations leveled at Senator John McCain during the 2000 Republican primaries and continued with the slurs against Senators Max Cleland and John Kerry, and now Mr. Murtha."

And further:

"a preponderance of the Iraq war veterans who thus far have decided to run for office are doing so as Democrats."
Reply:Thats how John Kerry got his!
Reply:Well it is based on an injury done by the enemy

No rules as to how much injury

other than it has to draw blood
Reply:The idea of the purple heart is to honor the soldier for service in a war who was injured in combat with the enemy, it doesn't matter than he lost both arms and legs...it matters that he served in a life threatening conflict in service of his country...it is done to honor a living person...you can't tell a dead soldier that he was appreciated...I'm a democrat.
Reply:of course. Kerry got a purple heart for a grain of rice in the butt.
Reply:If a person is in a Vehicle and a roadside bomb goes off right next to them and shrapnel cuts them on their foot. Where they not injured by an enemy attack. Well I guess giving Purple Hearts is worst than 4 months extensions in Iraq as well as raising the volunteer age to 42. I guess giving purple hearts is worse than fighting an unjustified war and loosing 3000 troops in the process.
