Are Purple Heart Medals just a big joke? Republicans think so.?

During the last Presidential election, the republicans didn't think much of the three Purple Hearts that Sen. Kerry won while fighting in Viet Nam. So why should anybody have any respect for Purple Hearts given out in Iraq? I mean, it IS the republicans that claimed that Purple Hearts were being given out to people who didn't deserve them. According to the republicans, one guy was given 3 Purple Hearts that he didn't deserve. So thanks to the republican's, I just shake my head everytime I hear that some guy "earned" a Purple Heart in Iraq.(We know better, don't we?) Thanks to the bush campaign, we now know they hand them out like Halloween candy. So does this make you think of the Purple Heart as a big joke? I never used to, but thanks to george bush I do now. Maybe that's why gw never got a Purple Heart of his own

Are Purple Heart Medals just a big joke? Republicans think so.?
It doesn't have anything to do with republicans per se, but it has to do with the campaign strategy that Karl Rove (Bush's primary advisor) used to make Kerry's meritorious service look otherwise.

Medals like the Purple Heart and Medal of Honor will always be medals of incredible value regardless of what politicians say or think. You seem to be getting information from the wrong source because I have Soldiers under me in my company who were authorized to wear the purple heart, but chose not to because they weren't injured enough...even though these individuals have scars and problems as a result of that enemy action.

So almost always, if a person is wearing a purple heart they most likely earned it. You'd don't know what they went through to get it (could be a scratch, but most likely serious injuries, concussions from the sheer power of the shockwaves striking the vehicles from an IED, etc...

DON'T EVER think that the purple heart is a joke. Those who earned one in the wars before us and even today deserved them. They've went into a warzone and if they have a scratch or a leg missing that's still a hell of a lot more than the rest of the population back in the United States, so give them the respect they deserve rather than worry about political jargon that is pushing some agenda and maybe destroying the merit that so many other Soldiers, Marines, Airmen, and Sailors most certainly deserve.

My dad was a purple heart recipient. He was blown up by a mortar and a rocket in Vietnam. He lost a finger and had many shrapnel injuries but was apprehensive to wear it because he'd seen other people get far worse injuries. As far as I'm concerned, being a Soldier in Iraq myself, my dad, the men he's served with that were injured, the Soldiers here who've been injured multiple times (but still roll outside the wire anyway) deserve all the respect in the world. One man, or a few politicians, won't diminish the honor of these men.
Reply:too bad that you don't really want answers, only validation for your own ill advised beliefs. Report It

Reply:i Think so.. Its nothing but serious joke to great service to our nation Report It

Reply:I think there were some legitimate questions about whether John Kerry really earned his purple hearts. But I don't think that in any way diminishes the honor of the purple hearts received by other soldiers.
Reply:I don't know what Republicans have to do with the perception that some medals were not deserved. From what I have seen there has been some abuse. USA Today took a look at this.

Reply:We can tell you obviously think the Purple Heart is a joke. Before you give anybody some of your lacking two cents, you should do more research. If you choose not to, then SHUT UP!
Reply:no the purple heart is not a joke.it was an issue in the campaing because kerry brought them up.several people that served with him said that he was barely wounded and that one wound was counted twice this was backed up by a docter that treated kerry.to recieve a purple heart one has to be wounded by result of a direct contact with an enemy action in a combat situation.although small scrapes usually do not count,if you are connected you can recieve one and this is what was brought up about kerry
Reply:Senator Kerry lost the respect that comes with the medal after throwing them over the White House front gate in protest. The ignorant POS even had the nerve to say during his campaign that he didn't throw the medals over, just his ribbons. The ribbons on a uniform represent the exact same thing as the medals. And no, he doesn't deserve to have them today after disrespecting them the way he did.

Wake up and think about what your saying before you say it.
Reply:The reason they disrespect the military is because they don't serve in the military. Look at the stats of Senators and Legislatures in the House, none of the Republicans ever served in the military. John McCain was a prisoner of war, and they shun him their only real vet. The military said today on television and I went to Crown Point cemetery. I was told that only 10% of the military is Conservative that is serving presently. This has been all over the news, and I asked for myself to the CO of Crown Point. It's just Propaganda from the GOP, they want credit for nothing they support.
Reply:You sir, are a jackass. John Kerry purple hearts were mocked because he hurt the US war effort in Veitnam and betrayed his country.
Reply:As a republican I think purple hearts are a joke... almost as big a joke as the above idiotic question...

p.s. Kerry's purple hearts actually ARE a joke... do some research before you make stupid broad based generalizations.
