Should George Dubya recieve the Purple Heart?

COPPERAS COVE – History will be made today when Copperas Cove resident Bill Thomas and his wife, Georgia, present President George W. Bush with a Purple Heart at the Oval Office.

Thomas said he and his wife came up with the unprecedented idea to present the president with the Purple Heart over breakfast one morning a few months ago as they discussed the verbal attacks, both foreign and domestic, the commander in chief has withstood during his time in office.

"We feel like emotional wounds and scars are as hard to carry as physical wounds," Thomas said.

The medal was awarded to Thomas on Dec. 18, 1965, following injuries he sustained while serving in heavy combat with the 173rd Airborne Brigade in Vietnam.

It is one of three he was awarded during his service.

Thomas said the Purple Heart he is presenting the president has special meaning to him because the injury he suffered to earn it occurred just after a friend, Richard Peterson, lost his life attempting to save him.

Should George Dubya recieve the Purple Heart?
Coward in Chief Boy George Bush actually accepted a Purple Heart for getting his feelings hurt.

The slimeball AWOL malingerer who trashed the war record of a real war hero - questioning whether he deserved his medals - accepted a medal he did not deserve. For Pete’s sake, Bush’s battle cry during Vietnam was - “Run away! Run away!”

The man who will not attend an Iraqi war victim memorial service. The man who has lied to the American people about the numbers and types of casualties in his war of lies and profiteering. The man who used Pat Tillman as a prop, lying about his death — just as he lied about the reasons for the war.

This just shows how little respect Bushies have for the sacrifices of the troops they have put in harms way.

The issue is not around what I consider to be the flawed thinking of the true earner of the medal. The issue is that Bush did not simply say - “Thanks, but no thanks. I don’t deserve it.”

Instead, this lying, scheming politico actually capitalizes on this to drum up support for his disastrous war.

No, Boy George Bush did not deserve the medal.

NPR reports more U.S. casualties this month than in any month of the war.

I dare the coward-in-chief to wear that medal in public.
Reply:I think Bush needs a psychiatric exam.
Reply:All I can say is that if Thomas has that little respect for the medal that he was awarded for bravery.. then go ahead and give it to Bush.

How ironic that the biggest coward in the world will receive a medal for bravery.

Mr Thomas, I respectfully think you are nuts.. but maybe it will get you a nice little kick back of some sort.. but don't count on it.
Reply:Jesus. That's disturbing.LOL. A purple heart for verbal attacks, wow.

Well why not, this is fitting with Bush anyway.
Reply:It is a travesty for a Purple Heart to be presented to President Bush and for him to accept it. He didn't spend a single day in the military service of the United States of America. It is a huge slap in the face of every member of the armed forces of our great country who was awarded the Purple Heart for true military injury. Mr. Thomas is so far out of line it is not even funny. He should have his medal rescinded.
Reply:Bush should thank this gentleman and decline his offer. It's just a photo op and publicity stunt.
Reply:No, I don't thing so.
Reply:I'd like to award him with a Black Eye!
Reply:if that is true, it is an insult to the soldiers who actually received purple hearts defending their country.
Reply:It's Thomas' purple heart. When he dies he can give it to his heirs who can dump it, gift it, or treasure it.

Why should the rules be different when Thomas is alive? I think it's a very personal, meaningful gesture and President Bush should feel honored.
Reply:"Earn" a Purple Heart" by someone ELSE'S bloodshed!!! Damned he ain't so dumb after all...........

;-)
Reply:NO!!!!!!!
Reply:A purple heart is an honor bestowed upon vets who have been injured in COMBAT. How dare this award be minimized.

This president has never seen combat! This is an insult to all recipients of the purple heart.
Reply:So many Bush haters. Has there ever been a US president who finished his term without looking like he aged 20 years or more? The job is not as easy as we like to sit back and think it is. However, in my profession if I had a dollar for every time I got a "verbal attack" I would be right up there with Bill Gates
Reply:Isn't it illegal for a private citizen to present someone with a Purple Heart? I know it's illegal to sell one. But Bush should decline with respect, not accept it like he did something to earn it. He's pissing on the award.
Reply:His honorary degree at Yale was a slap in the face to anyone who's ever studied hard to excel. He was a cheap legacy kid and a mediocre student.

This is even worse, though. Many soldiers have come back wounded, maimed, and scarred more than the Sitcom President will ever be in his pampered existence. Falling off a Segway and choking on a pretzel can't compare to losing an arm, an eye, and experiencing the trauma of first-hand combat. This is an insult and disgrace to our veterans and troops in combat!
Reply:Oh, did we hurt his widdoh feelings?

Tsk, tsk.

What Dubya should get is a life sentence for Crimes Against Humanity, after getting and abiding by a summons to appear in international court, and being duly tried therein.

Wonder if he'll wear the medal when speaking against his usual background of uniformed soldiers?
Reply:Mr. Thomas earned that medal. It is his. He fought for the freedom to choose what he does with the medal he earned. He chooses to give it to our President who has been very unfairly treated by people who refuse to see that he went into this war with the backing of Congress. Then they lost their spines and left him holding the bag.

It is a gift from someone who was in combat, showing his respect for the Commander in Chief of his nation's armed forces. I think Bush was right to accept it. I'm sure he considered it a great honor and will treasure it. And I'm sure it will also always remind him of all the young men and women who proudly served under him. I'm sure it will remind him of the very difficult decision to send them to war. And I hope it will remind him that there are plenty of Americans who stand behind him and respect him for not letting popularity polls make his decisions(unlike CONgress).
Reply:Would such a purple heart be more or less valuable than the Medal of Freedom given to George Tenet?
Reply:It is a veterans wishes, why does it disturb you.. the left needs to stop over analyzing everything out of a bias knee jerk reaction......When a wife of a slain police officer gave Clinton her husbands badge, should he received it he was impeached...so is your logic flawed.

Plus this same question was on Y/A about a month ago good try...also you left off an important quote from the veteran himself...

"He has drawn criticism from some locals who have learned of his actions, Thomas said. Nevertheless, he said he earned the Purple Heart and it is his to do with it as he sees fit.

"I feel the President deserved one," he said. "The bottom line is, I paid for these Purple Hearts with my blood."
Reply:It's his purple heart and he's got the right to do with it whatever he wants. The guy's got a point.
