Purple Heart, is a US (American) Award, why would someone who claims he is a vet NOT know this?

Why would someone who “claims” to be a Vet ask a foreign citizen if he has Purple hearts, this clearly illustrates the person is no VET, when they do not know something as elementary as this.

For the record my country does not give medals for injuries, they used to give a “wounded badge” what country is this? And how old is the Purple Heart and what was it’s original intention?

How can you claim (this is to US Ex Service men) to be wounded in action and not miss any days out, not even requiring a band aid, can someone explain that to me, how is it TRUE American soldiers with real injuries did not get one, yet someone like John Kerry GOT not ONE but three, for three various scratches. Does the US system of Purple hearts need over hauling, would you not need a Doctor to examine you and agree first that you truly are injured and you can not just apply for one yourself? V

2. A wound is defined as an injury to any part of the body from an outside force or agent sustained under one or more of the conditions listed above. A physical lesion is not required, however, the wound for which the award is made must have required treatment by a medical officer and records of medical treatment for wounds or injuries received in action must have been made a matter of official record.

We know all about Senator Kerry, And I for one have heard too much about him and his awards.

I would think any American Vet would know that this is an American Medal, (Has a pic of George Washington on it) And is currently a US Post Office Stamp. Maybe they didn;t know you weren't American? Or they could have been a poser.
Reply:There is a growing legion of sorry @$$ sonsofbitches who like to dress up and pretend that they are war heroes so it very likely you encountered a poser.

Reply:Ignorance doesn't necessarily mean fraud. Two uniformed members of the Arizona National Guard did not intervene when a living Medal of Honor winner was strip searched at the airport in Phoenix a few years ago. Neither of these soldiers had any familiarity with the medal's appearance. They thought it was some sort of Ninja throwing star. So did the guards of the Transport Security Administration. The gentleman who was searched had the medal in his jacket's inside pocket. He was on his way to give a talk at West Point.

The Purple Heart is given to those wounded in combat. Hospitalization or even extensive care at field aid station is not required. The medal dates back to the Continental Army in the War for American Independence. It was created by General George Washington as a medal for valor in combat but became one for being wounded. That is why the metal pendant below the cloth part of the medal contains a bas relief profile of Washington's face.

Usually I don't answer their question if they are immediately identified as a foreign citizen.

"For the record my country does not give medals for injuries, they used to give a “wounded badge” what country is this? And how old is the Purple Heart and what was it’s original intention?"

Never heard of a "wounded badge". The Purple Heart is very old---goes back to the Revolutionary War. The Purple Heart was given by George Washington to troops who died in combat during that time. It was later discontinued and recontinued after a period of time.

?

He didn't get any "scratches"--he was wounded---THREE times!

"Does the US system of Purple hearts need over hauling, would you not need a Doctor to examine you and agree first that you truly are injured and you can not just apply for one yourself? "

What are you talking about? One never could apply for one him/herself EVER. It was never like that. If such an application came onto a commander's desk (that was written by the injured soldier)--it was immediately discarded! That is not how the military gives out it's medals (period!).

yeah, I will explain it A HOLE! On June 11th, 2006, I was attached to 2nd Platoon, B/1-502 IN. We were SW of Baghdad. We were attacked ny 12-15 insurgents while in a local nationals home. Complex attack was followed up with a Suicide bomber in a dump truck. 20+ American Soldier received wounds (schrapnel, glass, concussions). 15+ Iraqi Soldiers were wounded. 4, count 'em, FOUR total were medevaced (2 US, 2 IA). No treatment by the doc, no "missed days". We stayed in the fight, rebuilt the Patrol Base, and rounded up a bunch of insurgents the next day.
Reply:Well I am a Brit vet with a Military Medal and I know what it is,I believe in the yank army army you have to be blooded in action.tell me someone if i am wrong
Reply:paddy, why are you always fighting with someone on YA?
Reply:What needs overhauling is the notion that only War mongers are deserving of their medals or to be called Real Soldiers.

A group funded by the biggest Republican campaign donor in Texas began running an attack ad Aug. 5 in which former Swift Boat veterans claim Kerry lied to get one of his two decorations for bravery and two of his three purple hearts.

But the veterans who accuse Kerry are contradicted by Kerry's former crewmen, and by Navy records.

One of the accusers says he was on another boat "a few yards" away during the incident which won Kerry the Bronze Star, but the former Army lieutenant whom Kerry plucked from the water that day backs Kerry's account. In an Aug. 10 opinion piece in the conservative Wall Street Journal, Rassmann (a Republican himself) wrote that the ad was "launched by people without decency" who are "lying" and "should hang their heads in shame."

And on Aug. 19, Navy records came to light also contradicting the accusers. One of the veterans who says Kerry wasn't under fire was himself awarded a Bronze Star for aiding others "in the face of enemy fire" during the same incident.
Reply:wow still swift boating Kerry...

he lost you all won and the rest is history.
