Somebody I know, but wouldn't consider a friend is serving in Iraq right now. He fell off a tailgate of a truck, while not in combat. From what I've heard, he has some bruises and a separated rib. While painful, hardly life threatening. Will this still get him a Purple Heart? Does this make him a hero or just a klutz?
Purple Heart for minor injury?
If this was an accident then no he is not entitled to receive the Purple Heart. Now if this was combat related and this injury was in result to being in combat action then yes he would be entitled to the Purple Heart
suro
Reply:No. it has to be actions related to contact with the enemy.
Reply:Depends on the circumstance. How did he come to fall off the truck, was it enemy action, an IED? If so he'll get the Purple Heart. But all of Iraq is considered a combat zone. So if it is because he's a klutz he'll get it anyway.
Reply:No purple heart. The injury has to be the result of enemy action.
And the fact that he went to Iraq makes him a hero.
Reply:If he's an E6 or above he'll probably get a bronze star =o)
Reply:John Kerry says he gets a Purple Heart. :-)
Reply:If it wasnt combat related, then I dont see him getting the Purple Heart... If they were stupid enough to give it to him because he fell off a truck, then he should give it back.
Reply:If he was in a combat zone, he would probably qualify for a purple heart, Kerry got one for a splinter. That still makes him a klutz
