No Purple Heart?

My father-in-law served in the l0th Mountain Div. Ski Troops of WWII in mountains of Italy. He was shot and later recovered and came home. He never received a purple heart. Who do you contact about this?

Department of Veterans Affairs, should be able to help. Congressmen/women from your district. Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW).





All of the above have been reported to be able to assist military veterans to get medals and honors which they are due. It sounds like your father-in-law is one of many heroes who somehow got overlooked for an award he deserved. If he was wounded in combat there is a strong possibility he is entitled to more than just a Purple Heart, check into it.

Reply:I'd write a congressman about it. Do you have evidence of his hospitalization or wound? Copies of his orders? Send copies. Never send the origional. You might try to get ahold of a unit historian for the 10th Mountain as well. There have got to be a lot of dedication sites for them, check military.com for a memorial site and see if theres someone you can contact there as well.
Reply:ask your father in law for his DD-214, this should have a record of his injury listed on it, call you congressman and request his/her service in getting your father in law recognized. It may take some time to get this done, so I would start right away
