Do you think purple hearts should be awarded to people with PTSD?
I get 100% for PTSD and by no way do I think I should get a medal.
In fact, I am in the process of returning to work and dropping my disability. I dont want it. I want to be productive. Maybe a different ribbon for disabled or something for those that think they need one
Reply:No.
While there are many wounds in war, I don't think the door should be open like this.
The order of the Purple Heart states: "Let it be known that he who wears the military order of the purple heart has given of his blood in the defense of his homeland and shall forever be revered by his fellow countrymen."
There are many other honors that can bestowed upon men and women for their service and actions.
Purple Heart is for blood.
If there are awards going out to those who are mentally or emotionally scarred by war, everyone - including military spouses should be honored.
Reply:Great question.
I don't think so. Combat stress and PTSD affect people in such different ways that it would be hard to quantify. Two individuals could go through the same exact situations and receive the same stimuli and the traumatic stress will affect them differently.
PTSD can manifest itself or be diagnosed long after the combat tour is completed. How would you award those people?
Reply:If they suffered it in war, then I don't see why not. You can be wounded psychologically as well as physically.
Reply:No, it would take away the honor of the medal.
Perhaps another badge of honor could be created for those soldiers who have stress.
Reply:As someone said earlier, maybe a different medal or a ribbon to distinguish physical wounds and mental wounds.
Reply:no, too many people would claim it,
its better of being reserved for people with the real wounds, being mental isn't enough
Reply:Yes, their honor should be rewarded
Reply:That is stupid and insult to soldiers who were actually wounded in battle.
Reply:No, the award should be left as it is!
Reply:Yes. The brain is an organ in the body.
Reply:Maybe this deserves some thought.
