I recently learned about a man who received a check from the VA for his military service. He had been out of the military nearly 40 years, but the check was retroactive for 19 years, which is the maximum. He now receives a monthly check.
I have 2 brothers who were in Viet Nam. One was wounded and received a Purple Heart. The other was a gunner on a helicopter. Both saw ungodly horrors.
What is this money that I have been told they are entitled to and what do we have to do to get it?
Looking for answers about military backpay paid to all veterans.?
They may have received back pay under the Concurrent Receipt laws.
Used to be law that you could not receive VA disablity and retired pay at the same time. If entitled to both, you gave up dollar for dollar retired pay for VA disability pay, which is tax free.
Under new laws if you are 80-100% disabled from injuries as a result of combat action, you are entitled to both.
There is a limit to the catch up time. They are slowly working there way through the back log of applications for catch up pay.
Reply:This is an old scam. The VA does not issue back pay. They do not pay you once you are out.
