It is a symbol. This is obviously an infringement of the drivers' civil rights (We live in a country where it is legal to burn a flag in front of a 'Purple Heart' veteran.
I listened to the Mayor's comments - he's a fool and everything wrong with PC. I assume the ACLU will get involved.
How is arresting the driver with a truck decorated with nooses not illegal?
The nooses are a form of speech. However, there is a line between free speech and inciting to riot, and the Klansmen in the truck crossed that line.
Reply:The driver was driving drunk. That's why he was arrested.
Reply:what is wrong with you people that you can't find fault with hanging symbols of hate from a truck and driving by a protest against intolerance?
Reply:Welcome to the new world order!! You can be arrested for anything they want to arrest you for. They can destroy your life and anything else that comes to mind. I tried to warn people about communism getting ahold on the country, but just like all the arragont politcians in office, with the talent of brainwashing got ahold and they a never going to let go.!
So ..........welcome to the real world and it's going to get alot tougher!
Reply:I think you can say and do anything unless its super dumb or illegal...... Power goes to some peoples heads. Small government and lower taxes I say.
Reply:I'll bet that if the guys in the truck were black they would not have been pulled over. It's the normal double standard again
Reply:Well, infringement on freedom of speech seems to be a relative concept. If a lib wants to burn a flag that is protected but if a conservative wants to decorate anything with nooses it is illegal because it is supposedly racist. Go figure! REALLY SAD!
Reply:oh **** him and the klan too. I used to believe him and the klan were deserving of equal legal protection. So did the ACLU which defended the klan on numerous occasions. Now I just think that if I knew there was a white supremecist meeting somewhere nearby, I'd go ping a few for the laughs.
Screw the racists.
Reply:Making an arrest is not illegal by itself, the charge is DUI, and inciting a riot, and both are justified in the circumstances.
Reply:That arrest is illegal. A court of law will vindicate the driver.
Reply:Yes, technically it's his right to be stupid- but is that the only thing he did?
Reply:In many states having a noose is illegal. I'm not sure about Loserana.
Reply:Germany has laws which outlaw displaying a swastika, and it seems america is moving in the same direction here. It's a flagrant violation of free speech, and bowing to blackmail and intimidation by black activists. They can't solve the violence in the black community which makes murder the #1 cause of death among black men, but they can attack free speech of whites.
Reply:The authorities, the police can make up any kinds of reason to arrest anyone to pacify the black community because of the Jena 6 uproar.
Reply:I haven't heard about this. I am assuming it has to do with the "Jena 6" or whatever they are being called. Do you have a link?
Edit:here is the link:http://www.cnn.com/2007/US/09/21/car.noo...
He was arrested for DUI and contributing to the delinquency of a minor. He also had a rifle and brass knuckles although I don't believed he was charged for that. He was also charged w/ inciting a riot because he drove back and forth in front of protesters with his nooses. That's why he was arrested, not simply for having a noose hanging out his truck. Free speech is only free until you are attempting to incite a riot or cause violence.
Reply:The right to free speech and free expression is not absolute and unlimited. When the expression or speech in question is likely to incite violence, unrest, nuisance, danger, etc., the state has the right, and the duty, to prevent and punish such speech.
Never heard of the old "shouting 'fire' in the theater" scenario, have you?
