If I go to college what's the best career move? If I'm looking for a job without college, what is my best bet? Does anyone know what benefits are out for for having a purple heart?
What would be the best thing to do as a Marine Corps infantryman veteran with two combat tours?college or job?
Both... Get a job and while working go to college while getting VA benefits for college. A college degree lasts a lifetime and along with your military service opens a lot of doors for you. A job is just a job and they come and go. Do what interests you and study for a degree in a field that has a future. It may sound boring but accountants are in high demand as are engineers, medicine, and several other fields. If you find out college isn't your cup of tea, and it's not for everyone believe me, then consider a job driving long distance big rigs. Owner/operators make really good money(I'm talking $100k + a year) and company drivers still make decent wages and bennies. A new driver can earn approx. $40k a year with benefits to start. You need to get your Class A license and the VA will pay for truck driving school too. Commercial truck drivers are in high demand too, especially if you have a military backround like yours.
Reply:knowing what I know now I'd pick college first. Career studies, try to find something you enjoy doing.
Reply:if u want a job without college go to the police academy. a purple heart is very commendable. it shows your true bravery if you do want to go college you can have all kinds of doors opened for you because of your military past.
Reply:College will be the better choice, by far. You can get the GI Bill to pay for your schooling and your Marine discipline should make you an excellent student. Your career choices after college will be far more open than if you get a "blue-collar" job, will pay more, and will offer much better benefits (medical, vacation, etc). As far as the PH goes, I think there is a scholarship just for PH recipients. Ask about it when you inquire about the GI Bill.
And thank you for your service to our country.
Reply:Hey man I was an Army infantryman so I know what you are thinking right now. I will tell you what I decided, you paid in to the GI Bill you only have 8 years to use so go ahead and go to school. Even a little college will help you down the road
Reply:college the best career move would be law informant looking for a job without college swat..
Reply:Unless if organized crime is looking for goons and hitmen
your Infantry skills will be hard to use in the civilian world.
Try College - Criminal Justice degree and Police work? or even a lawyer!
Look for a job with the government DoD,VA, State
Reply:the heart will get you bennies at the V A
Reply:It kind of depends on where you want to go with your life. There are lots of jobs that don't require a college degree. On the other hand, the kind of jobs you get with a degree are usually cleaner and easier physically. We need a lot of engineers right now, as well as other scientific specialties. For non-college jobs, we need ten janitors for every computer programmer, so you might start out with an individual cleaning service and work it up into a company.
Reply:I went Law Enforcement, then moved along into a good career in Civie life in Mgmt! Nothing will stop you with a Jar Head background. I have met too many college educated idiots to put much stock in a sheepskin, but it helps pave the way! You got the best College education in the world from the Marines, so go forth a multiply!! USMC 60-68
Reply:The purple heart and serving in the military will not get you anything. If you have the opportunity to go to college and get a degree that is what will carry you through your whole career.
