Is it true that Dick Cheney has more Vietnam deferments than John Murtha has purple hearts?

Murtha has, in the past, publicly dismissed any questions about whether he deserved his two Purple Hearts, noting during his 1994 congressional campaign that "I am proud of my service in Vietnam."

"I volunteered for a year’s duty in Vietnam. I was out in the field almost every single day. We took heavy casualties in my regiment the year that I was there. In my fitness reports, I was rated No. 1. My record is clear," Murtha added.

Is it true that Dick Cheney has more Vietnam deferments than John Murtha has purple hearts?
Just following the replies above...I am not sure how anyone could think Cheney is a big supporter of the troops....HE doesn't care how they are outfitted. He call the VA a welfare scheme that ought to be demolished.

Serving his country at great cost to himself? Hmmmmm There was no cost to him in terms of putting himself in harm's way ...and receiving bribes is a source of income, not expense. Unless you count the bribes he paid while at Halliburton...of course his view of those was an investment. Let's see invest 6 million to get a multibillion dollar contract....hmmmmmm
Reply:To hold up Murtha seems pathetic in light of his efforts to smear the Haditha soldiers for political gain.
Reply:So you must be for McCain over hillary or obama based on Military service alone? Thanks for the consistency. Cheney has shown more heart than Murtha when it comes to supporting the troops. Murtha convicted marines of murder and now we see they were innocent. Yeah, raise the flag around Murtha, he has shown his true colors.
Reply:The lack of arms training shows, ask his hunting buddies.
Reply:It was clearly more important for Cheney to be studying war, so he could send people into it, than it was for him to be in the *hit himself.

At heart, the man's a true academic. :-P
Reply:there a lot better choices to make your point than Murtha. Purple hearts can be received for "chigger" bites if you fill out the correct paper work. remember john kerry
Reply:5 deferment Dick Cheney has more machines in his body than Darth Vader too. It is noteworthy to see exactly how many Gulf war veterans are running for office as Democrats compared to Republicans in light of people like Cheney claiming that the military is full of GOP supporters. Gone are those days I guess in part due to the leader ship of 5 deferments and draft dodgers with a rich daddy. Dick Cheney is the poster child of the GOP along with their war hero who turned traitor Duke Cunningham who once said that Democrats should be lined up and shot.
Reply:Who cares? Cheney's not even running in this election year.
Reply:Geez, it's 2008, and Cheney isn't up for re-election...did this question get stuck in a time-warp?

I think most people know that VP Cheney has a bad ticker, and a mechanical pacemaker. The US government makes rules about the the health necessary to serve in a war, and we can't even say Karl Rove was behind those rules, they been around a real long time now.
Reply:There's a special place in hell reserved for Cheney.
Reply:Who cares, really. You are really desperate to post this silly question. I think this country has more to worry about than crap that happened 40 years ago.
Reply:Yes it is true. Cheney said he had better things to do than defend his country.
Reply:No one disuptes Murtha's war record but that was back when he was young and healthy and had not become a crooked politican with little intellect left. It was only by the skin of his teeth that the Prosecutor decided not to prosecute him when he was involved in the Arab bribery sting .

Cheney, on the other hand, got deferments for his government work while your Buddy Bubba Clinton fled the country and lived in England.

Dick Cheney has served his country faithfully at great cost to himself.

What have you done for your country?
Reply:Yes, and probably the reason why Dead-eye Dick doesn't know how to handle a gun properly.

I guarantee that if Dead-eye Dick served in Vietnam, the shooting incident in Texas would not have happened.
Reply:No.

John Murtha has 2 purple hearts.

Although I initially thought "yeah probably."
Reply:While Murtha was running around for a year filling out fitness reports McCain was being held hostage and tortured. As politicians, Murtha has called our troops "COLD BLOODED MURDERERS", McCain praises their efforts daily. Cheney is not running for any office btw.
Reply:ROFL at everyone's favorite NeoCon line-tower , "Jeff M".

Even if Murtha was a little less than honorable, at least the guy went over seas and picked up a rifle.

Cheney was too much of a liar and coward to even do that. Listening to him talk about the Iraq war is pathetic. The man has absolutely ZERO credibility.
Reply:It sure looks like it
Reply:I'm not sure why this is an issue. What does the fact that Cheney did not serve in Vietnam have to do with anything? Neither of the Clintons or Barak served in Vietnam. When you have a problem with that reality, come back and we'll talk.

Oh, and by the way, the Clinton's didn't seem to have a problem starting a war either. I seem to recall Haiti, among others, and we're still in Kosovo.
Reply:And yet, it wasn't supposed to matter that Bill Clinton had draft deferments during the Vietnam era and never served in the military.

Rather than his military service, I think people should be more concerned with all of the earmarks that John Murtha attaches to spending bills.
