Undeserving Purple Hearts?

Has anyone else seen someone undeserving get a purple heart or combat action badge? Ive seen both and it pisses me off to see a soldier get a purple heart for something not even brought on by enemy contact. Ive also seen soldiers deserving not get medals. Just pisses me off.

Undeserving Purple Hearts?
i was offered a purple heart once. i denied it. back in 04, during the olypics haji was shooting up into the air with celebratory fire. i round came down on my, when through my top, and melted my underarmor and scraped me up pretty good across my back.

it was silly. it just kinda happened. i finished the mission without a problem, and got patched up that morning.

later on they were trying to push for my purple heart. i freaked out. it really pissed me off that it was even suggested. the guy i enlisted with was KIA not long before that. he earned his.

another time there was a situation where i earned my CAB. i put in the paperwork, and at the last min it was kicked back. after all the aprovals and everything. said that things changed and i needed to add more stuff to it. what pissed me off was i was deployed while this happened. a couple people had lied and said they were there when this particular incident happened. those guys took care of eachother and made sure the badge was approved. here i am, years later without my CAB lookin at a piece of s**t NCO wearing one he didnt earn because he was to damn scared to get out of the truck and move down the street.

the facts are, that i dont need a shiny piece of medal or a bit of colored ribbon to know that i fought long and hard. and honestly, who am i trying to impress?

Everyone who joins the army DOES get a medal.. a few actually.. army service, national defence, and the GWOT...

here we are talking about medals and badges that must be EARNED. so dont be a douche.
Reply:I haven't seen an undeserving purple heart recipient, but plenty of CAB's that were awarded because a mortar landed 300m away while they were downrange. That makes me mad, too, because I know I earned mine the hard way.
Reply:You can have mine man. I don't even wear them, all the purple heart ribbon is an enemy marksmanship badge. Either way, it never really bothered me. You can tell by looking at the soldier if they deserve the rack they wear. All i know is i sleep with a clear conscious.
Reply:There seems to be blatant abuse with regards the US medal awarding system and not just to Officers, this has been an ongoing problem since the Vietnam war, where the rules were bent every which way so officers could get as much chest salad as possible.

Various attempts to control it seem to have met with little success!!!
Reply:You mean Kerry and shooting himself in the foot with his pistol? Or when a super-heated particle of rice got embedded into his ****, a bi-product of launching a grenade into a rice patty? A real thigh-slapper that one was, especially when it came up in the 04 election!

There's a guy in my cousin's platoon that got a Purple Heart when shrapnel from his own grenade barely grazed his right thigh. If you know him, he's in the 2nd Infantry, north of Baghdad right now, and comes home early next summer to get married!
Reply:yeah i saw one, this Marine was getting out of a 7-ton truck and slipped coming down the folding ladder. the ladder was half off so a trailer would fit better. but there was no trailer. anyways, he slipped on a step and got his butt caught on the hitch and tore it open. his section leader gave him a damn purple heart and made up some B.S story about how we were receiving incoming mortar rounds.
Reply:Why do you care?

Do you need a little ribbon or Medal to know what you did to make yourself feel more important?

I don't

Reply:I have never seen anybody with a purple that did not deserve the award, that I know of.

However, I have known people get achievement and commendation medals that they did not deserve; they got it for kissing butt.

%26gt;Zoso, everyone in the military has medals, especially the National Defense Medal and the Global War on Terrorism Medal.
Reply:John Kerry's scratches come to mind, but I was not there.
Reply:I beleive anyone who joins the army should get a medal of some sort. Not to sound rude, but what's it to you? They're serving their country and protecting it for you. Shouldn't that alone be enough to get a medal?
Reply:Who decides who gets one and who doesnt? sorry to ask, but I think it has to be a bad commander out there giving out purple hearts like candy. that does take away meaning.
