Well i would suggest that you visit your local VFW and speak to the services officer. He or she can help with the paperwork and will know who to call and what forms to fill out.
Remember to bring a copy of your DD214 with.
If that doesn't seem to help shoot me an E-mail and i can try and take care of it for you.
My dad lost his purple heart in vietnam. how do i go about finding/getting it?
TRY THIS BRO.........Go to www.va.gov,this site is like the manual, the procedure, the paper work you need to retrieve lost Medals can be found there I believe.Tell your Dad "don't mean nothin"....."Don't sweat the small s**t".....WELCOME HOME BROTHER!!!
Reply:Isn't that something you get AFTER you get back from the war?
Reply:Try seeing if he has a DD214. It's a form you get when you get discharged that lists medals and citations. You could also try contacting his old unit or a recruiter who may be able to steer you in the right direction.
Reply:Some Army surplus stores actually sell them. Check around.
